A Passage Through Naldehra

Best places to visit in Naldehra, sightseeing & tourist attractions in Naldehra

The mountains that circle Naldehra, an hour’s drive from Shimla, strike impressive poses. The landscape has an almost pre-historic air – purple hilltops, green slopes, and lonely temples snuggling in green hollows and on craggy cliffs.        Here at a height of 6,500 ft, you have the magnificent scenery all to yourself especially as you gaze out at the spread  of cedar trees – deep and mysterious. And if you are seeking peace and solitude, this is the ideal place for doing nothing.

Whats Famous Here – Top Tourism Places Naldehra

Natural Beauty: In fact, Naldera is the kind of place where you can be both active and relaxed. Explore the idyllic little village nearby which seems to be caught in a time warp and is replete with rural cameos. Or tramp down spaghetti-like trails into forests buzzing with life. Here rainbow coloured birds chirp in boughs of trees as a soft breeze ruffles pines that have stood tall for centuries. Use Naldehra as a base and visit the neighbouring hill stations of Kuffi and Mashobra.

Then drive down towards Chindi valley, an unexploited part of Himachal Pradesh where the landscape erupts with wild beauty. The road coils past Tattapani, where the young and the restless go river rafting; the quaint powerhouse of Chaba which still supplies power to Shimla and a riverfront Hanuman temple shrouded in an ineffable sense of peace.

Here one is confronted in turn by deep gorges and enormous cliff faces. Occasionally the landscape softens and a scattering of slate-roofed homes and terraced fields indicate that man has tamed the terrain to meet his needs. The amphitheatre of surrounding mountains and valleys makes one feel like trespassers who do not belong here for it is nature’s domain, still largely untouched by man.

What to See: Places You Should Not Miss in Naldehra

Mahunag Temple: After you have had your fill of the great expanse of mountains and sky, drive on to Mahunag temple, the only one to be dedicated to Karn of Mahabharat fame. The temple which is perched precariously on a hill has that aura of peace that one associates with temples in the hills.  The centuries became confused in this hallowed spot where the legendary past seemed more real than the present.

Golf Course: No visit to Naldehra is complete without dropping in at its famous golf course. It does not matter if you have not held a golf club before, the local pro will be more than happy to teach you the basics of the game: the fingers interlocking grip, the proper stance, the swing, the function of the different clubs… Indeed, this is the second oldest golf course in India (the oldest is in Kolkata) and was built by Lord Curzon (appointed Viceroy of India in 1899) who loved the place so much that he had named his third and youngest daughter Alexandra Naldehra!
