Famous Places to Visit in Agra, India

Agra is located in Northwest Uttar Pradesh, fairly close to the Rajasthan border and about 220 km South of Delhi. Agra is part of the golden triangle that includes Jaipur and Delhi. This popular tourist circuit also includes Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Fatehpur Sikri.

The Taj Mahal has earned Agra the distinction of being the most popular tourist destination in India. Infact the former US President Bill Clinton observed when he visited India that there are two kinds of people in the world: those who have not been to the Taj Mahal and those who have. Yes, even though Agra has a number of other attractions to delight visitors, the Taj Mahal is reason enough for them to come here.

Apart from Taj Mahal Agra has numerous other famous tourist attractions like Agra Fort, Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb, Sikandra, Radhaswamy Samadhi, Dayalbagh, Jama Masjid, Mariyam’s Tomb, Chini-ka-Roza, Ram Bagh, etc.

Best time to visit: The best time to visit Agra is from November to February, when the climate is at its best and the temperatures range from a minimum of 4* C to a maximum of 28* C. From March to June the city scorches under the sun and the temperatures range between 22* C to 40* C plus, often touching 45* C.

Sur Surover (Keetham Lake) (23 km), Firozabad (44 km), Bateshwar (70 km), Mathura-Vrindavan (56km), etc.

  • Be careful of ‘poaching’ where unregistered travel agents ‘steal’ tourists of other tour operators. An authentic travel agent will have his representative holding up a signboard with your name at the main entrance/exit of the station / airport. Nevertheless ask to see the agent’s credentials before proceeding.
